When the Storm Hit
When Hurricane Helene struck Western North Carolina in September 2024, the ranch-style home of a Fairview family we’ll call the Clarks was among the thousands damaged. A massive oak tree crashed through one end of the house, followed by another that destroyed the garage. “Glass was flying everywhere,” Sarah recalls. “Tom looked at me and said, ‘We can’t stay here. We’ve got to go.'”
A Good Neighbor
In the days after the storm, Scroggs Construction Services stepped in—not as contractors at first, but as neighbors. Director of Sales Jack Sorrentino, who also lives in the Clarks’ Fairview neighborhood, was one of the first to arrive. “My heart sank when I saw their house,” he says. “I could sense the helplessness they were experiencing.”
Stronger Than Yesterday
For the Clarks, the damage was deemed a total loss. But with original blueprints in hand, Scroggs helped them rebuild smarter and stronger. Updates included a vaulted living room ceiling, an expanded porch, and a more open kitchen and dining area. Whenever possible, the team also incorporated salvaged materials.
“Tearing the old house down was emotional,” Sarah says. “But the home we have now is far beyond what we ever imagined. It’s beautiful, and Scroggs has done a phenomenal job.”
